One listen to Australian rockers Gang Of Youths’ 2017 sophomore album Go Farther In Lightness and you wonder why they haven’t blown up more here than they have. It seems they have all the ingredients for success and based on their sold out performance in support of the album at Irving Plaza on December 11th, the band is slowly but surely on the way (they also sold out Bowery Ballroom in March).

They kicked off the show with “Fear and Trembling” and “Fear and Trembling,” as they do on Go Farther In Lightness and it didn’t take long for them to stop me dead in my tracks and to take in the larger and life sound that they were delivering, seemingly with so much ease. But the passion and heartfelt grandiose nature of their sound is not something that can be faked, and it was felt throughout their impressive 12-song setlist, a 12-song count that is stretched out with their admittedly long song lengths.

It was my first time seeing the Australian rockers perform but what an inspiring performance it was. Based on the passionate fanbase that filled out the halls of Irving Plaza, it’s safe to say that Gang Of Youths are building a passionate fanbase of their own that will soon bring them to much bigger spaces in due time.

Kicking off the show was fellow Australian Gretta Ray, making her NYC debut. Find photos from both Gang Of Youths and her performance posted in the photo gallery below, along with their setlist.
