The ever talented Kamasi Washington
had a busy 2018 supporting his terrific new album Heaven and Earth, which was released via Young Turks. We caught him earlier this year when he opened for Alt-J at Forest Hills, but the last proper headlining show we caught from Washinton came in November 2017 when he played Terminal 5. Almost a year to the day, Washington returned to headline Brooklyn Steel on November 11th, continuing his support of Heaven and Earth.

The show was an ever powerful display of the mastery of his craft, with a razor-sharp backing band behind them that only enhanced the already immense display of musicianship. What was most impressive was how Washington would give every single member of his band a chance to shine and get a bit of the spotlight to show own their own individual powers. Not every musician would do this, but it’s clear that Washinton isn’t just anybody.
