Death Cab for Cutie are currently on tour in support of their new album Thank You for Today, released on August 17 via Atlantic Records. Their tour brought them to Brooklyn for a two night run at Kings Theatre on October 12 & 13, with both nights featuring support from the still touring Charly Bliss.
We caught night one of the sold out run and it was a much more fitting choice of venue in both size and atmosphere, somewhat intimate compared to the big stage of Madison Square Garden, where we caught them last, way back in 2015.
Along with the expected new offerings off of Thank You for Today, the night saw the band dip into the well of the more expected hits (“Soul Meets Body,” “The Sound of Settlings” & “I Will Follow You Into the Dark”) and more nuanced deeper cuts (“”Title Track,” “A Movie Script Ending” and “Tiny Vessels”). Something was definitely lost at that MSG performance but the band sounded about as good as I’ve ever seen them at Kings Theatre, with a sold out capacity crowd that was with them every step of the way.
