Real Estate just released their fourth album In Mind last year via Domino Records (their 2017 tour brought them to Brooklyn Steel) but are already testing out some new material during this year’s tour, which brought that back home to New Jersey on June 14 for a performance at White Eagle Hall.

The set was a good balance between all of their albums with a handful of songs played from each of their albums. This gave them room to explore the worlds of new songs such as “Half A Human,” “November,” and “Friday” the latter of which was one of the jammiest songs that the band has ever done and one that they explained was still very much a work in progress.

Originally the show was set to end with “Darling” during the main set but so many fans were cheering for “Beach Comber,” that they decided to give the crowd what they want, even though the song originally wasn’t on the setlist. They then The band then decided that they would end things there instead of the original 2-song encore of “Crime” and “Suburban Beverage,” but the hometown crowd didn’t leave or stoop cheering so the band returned back to give them one of the first “real” encores that I’ve seen in many years.

It seems that we could very well have a new Real Estate album before the year is over and hopefully yet another area show to see where the new material has gone. It seems that the band is growing into even a tighter unit with guitarist Julian Lynch, making the future possibilities even more exciting than ever.
