Being able to ‘cut’ videos and split them into segments is extremely useful. Not only will it allow you to isolate and remove (i.e. trim) any unwanted footage from your videos, but it can also allow you to split your videos into segments so that they can be rearranged into a different sequence.

While most editors will allow you to cut and trim videos in some way or other, few make it as easy and straightforward as Movavi Video Editor. In fact it is safe to say that even if you have no experience editing videos in the past you should be able to quickly learn how to cut and trim video footage – in a couple of minutes at most.

If you would like to start right now, begin by launching Movavi Video Editor and loading the video that you intend to edit. To do so click on the ‘Add Media Files’ button, then select the video file – or if you prefer, drag and drop the file into the ‘Timeline’ in the lower section of the interface.

Once the video is loaded and appears in the ‘Timeline’, you can then start to cut it. The method that Movavi Video Editor employs is really very straightforward, and all you need to do is move the red marker above the ‘Timeline’ to the point where you want to split the video then click on the Split icon (i.e. the scissors). To delete a segment after it has been split you need only select it then hit ‘Delete’ on your keyboard, or right-click and select ‘Delete’ in the menu.

Keep in mind that in some cases you may need to split the video twice before the segment you want to remove is isolated – especially when it is located in the middle of the video. That just means you should repeat the process outlined above once more, so that you split the video at the next point that is needed. Also if you want to rearrange video segments in Movavi Video Editor you can just select and drag them around in the ‘Timeline’ until they appear in the order that you want.

By cutting and trimming videos in this fashion, you can get rid of unwanted footage, extract important highlights, and compile footage in any way you see fit. On top of that you can also take advantage of the other features in Movavi Video Editor to process the footage further and enhance its quality, fix common issues, add background music or a voiceover, apply artistic filters and special effects, or insert captions.

Every feature in Movavi Video Editor is designed to be intuitive and should be as easy to pick up as it was to learn how to cut and trim videos. In fact if you have a few minutes to spare, try experimenting with each feature so you can figure out how they work and what they can do – and apply them to your videos as required.
