This June saw Redding, California surf-rockers Gringo release their debut album The Shores (via Hey Amigo Recording Co.). They’re the brainchild of San Diego native Ryan Gillespie and the album is a collection of stories from the past year and a half of his life on the west coast.
Take album cut “Little Spider.” While it may not be re-inventing the genre, there’s an assured confidence in its delivery that just works. It uses it’s lo-fi nature to it’s advantage, sounding raw and gritty in the best way.
