It’s been a while since I last saw The xx perform live. There was their set at Governors Ball in 2013, but the last real full set I took from the London trio was back in 2012 at the Paradise Theater up in the Bronx (do they still have shows there?)

The xx’s sound has a come quite a ways since their debut release in 2009 (damn, where has the time gone?). With new album I See You (released via Young Turks) is their first album in four years, and a incorporates a more dance/electronic element brought in primarily from Jamie Smith and his 2015 solo album In Colour.

Truthfully it took me more time that most to settle into the new album, but once I did, I fell suspect to the new sound and its charms. These new sounds sounded absolutely perfect outdoor in the rather unusual but cool confines of a tennis stadium such as Forest Hills. We lucked out with some pretty ideal weather, that let all the sounds of the xx – new and old – breathe wonderfully into the warm summer air.

Find some photos from their performance posted below, along with photos of Sampha, who opened the show up.
