After many years of trying, and failing, to see Queens Of The Stone Age (including at Lollapalooza where I saw New Order instead because I knew I was covering this), I finally got to catch them live at Made In America. They did not disappoint.

The band meant business as they chugged along through an insanely tight set that began triumphantly with “My God Is A Sun”, “You Think I Ain’t Worth A Dollar, But I Feel Like A Millionaire”, and the classic “No One Knows.” Quite the way to start a show.

The band wasn’t just business, Josh Homme was sure to acknowledge that he wasn’t a fan of the rules, and hoped we would “put them in our pocket” and just have a good time. He wasn’t bullshitting us. During “Make It Wit Chu” Homme stopped singing after he noticed a security guard told a girl to get off someones shoulders. He thought that there was no need for it, as everyone was just trying to have a good time. Props to Homme for being a flat out cool guy.

The band rocked out with as tight of a set as you could imagine. They just don’t make them like Queens Of The Stone Age these days. They’re truly one of the last true great rock bands that this generation has. There was no twerking, no sampling, no dropping of a beat, no singing while someone else’s song played. Just straight up rock and roll, and it resulted it one of the great sets of the festival. I am going to have to catch them at Barclays in November, as I want to experience a full set and show from these legends.
